Archive of the Charismatic Renewal

Recently, several people have been involved with establishing a “Charismatic Archive” in Herrnhut. The archive will chronicle the development of the charismatic movement in Germany and its connections around the world.

The materials have been mainly collected by Gerhard Bially, publisher of the German magazine Charisma. Our enthusiastic volunteers have included a retired archivist, young people with free time between high school and college, members of Youth With a Mission Herrnhut, and workers from the government programme for the unemployed.

There are many cassette recordings that are being digitized, correspondence, newsletters, photos and newspapers from Israel, all back issues of Charisma magazine (extra copies available for free), part of the literary estate of Günther Dürrmeier, manuscripts by evangelist Paul Toaspern and many other interesting publications. There are treasures to be found for anyone who is interested, whether professionals, students or as a hobbyists. You just need time to browse and search.

We have only taken baby steps in the development of this project, but it is important to us that many people find out about it. We welcome donations of interesting material relating to this topic as well as of finances for shelving, storage and files or for the utility costs for the room.

An archive for the future can only come alive when there are enough interesting things from the past to document. Please feel free to contact us through the office at Christliches Zentrum Herrnhut.
